Herzog has the name and pedigree, but the other film has an Oscar nomination
Line of Events
Maurice and Katia Krafft devoted their lives to exploring the world’s volcanoes. Their legacy consists of ground-breaking scenes of explosions and their aftermath, composed in this visually stunning collage. I had never heard of this couple and suddenly they get two documentaries in short order.
Helens see explosion scenes
It’s fascinating to see them back to back and compare the two. Herzog uses footage shot by the couple almost entirely. I have a classic Mount St.
It’s like presenting the corpse early in a murder mystery
I’m sure there are other non-Kraft scenes to fill out the story. Herzog telling us at the beginning of the movie that they are about to die on that Japanese mountain is very powerful. Both documentaries use stunning footage of the couple, but their voices are absent here.
He is the one doing Ponsity
It’s Herzog’s narrative, as in most of his films. Throughout the movie, I wanted to hear the couple’s voices, or at least their words. This is similar to a eulogy spoken at a funeral, and that may be the intention.
That is the main difference
I have a better feeling about the couple in the other movie.
