The prequel to the original Dune tells the story of how Rosak’s sister became a Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valja Harkonen using the voice is from the one called “Mentats of Dune”. All three books focus on the development of Nurses, Mentees, Navigators, and Brush Doctors. I wanted to be short and sweet, but I felt compelled to elaborate on my thoughts.
So here it is
There was a time when writers knew how to weave exposition into a story without it feeling forced and contrived. I understand it’s the first episode, but do they have to present everything as if it’s not common knowledge? Watson (Valya), Mark Strong (Emperor), Travis Fimmel (Hart), and Sarah-Sofia Bousnin (Princess) give good performances. I feel like the show is in good hands.
The other characters didn’t engage me
They drive the story but are forgettable. I guess we’ll see how that goes. I had a hard time focusing on the first episode. It felt like a piece of a whole.
They did a great job on the visuals
I’ll wait the whole season before they start shooting more episodes. The CGI is top notch, the costumes are perfect, the tone of Villeneuve’s vision is preserved and developed. The art department should win awards for its beauty.
