I read the original novel many times as a teenager, decades ago
Referenced on Korman Productions’ Deep Dive TV podcast: Earth Alive Episode 1 of MGM+ Deep Dive, “Alone”; with Dave and Stacie (2024). It’s a great story, with lots of powerful imagery, and highly recommended, if a bit dated – it was published in 1949, seventy-five years ago, so I was quite surprised when this limited series adaptation surfaced. I’m also very concerned, as it remains one of my favorite reads.
I finished with, "Wow!
"People come and go, but the earth remains" is a quote I use often. I watched the first episode with some trepidation. That was really good!" Seeing Ish staring at the smoke from Em’s house brought the images from the book to life.
I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series
The Rattlesnake Bite, Finding Lucky the Dog (Princess in the Book), Milt and Ann. Other changes, like limiting Ish’s trip to just Las Vegas instead of Atlantic City, make sense and aren’t critical to the character interactions. Also, the structure of the book makes limited series a great production choice.
